Pack up the car for this 7 day trip to Texas, where you will experience a blend of culture, history, and Texas charm. This road trip includes four iconic cities — Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, and San Antonio.

Start in Dallas where you can explore city life, then travel to Fort Worth to step into western culture at The Stockyards, next drive down to the state capital city of Austin, and finish up with a few days enjoying the history and culture of San Antonio.

Day 1: Dallas, Texas
Driving Time: 0 Hours – Trip Itinerary Starts Here
Arrive in Dallas and start Day 1 with a visit to the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza where you can learn more about the life and legacy of President John F. Kennedy. Take some time to walk through Dealey Plaza and the Grassy Knoll to see the memorials and tributes to JFK. In the afternoon, visit the Dallas Museum of Art to explore its extensive collection. For dinner, try one of the restaurants or food trucks near Klyde Warren Park, where you can spend the evening exploring the urban green space and visiting the Dallas Convention & Visitors Bureau.
Day 2: Dallas, Texas
Driving Time: 0 Hours – Explore Dallas
Wake up early to take a peaceful walk through the beautiful landscapes at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden. In the afternoon, take some time to discover the vibrant neighborhood of Deep Ellum, known for its street art, galleries, and live music venues. Spend the evening dining at a classic Texas steakhouse and then catch a performance at the AT&T Performing Arts Center.
Day 3: Fort Worth, Texas
Driving Time: 35 Minutes (32 miles) (64 miles round trip if you are staying in Dallas for the night)
Start Day 3 with a short drive to Fort Worth, where you can witness a cattle drive and explore the Western heritage of Texas at the Fort Worth Stockyards. Enjoy meals at the local BBQ restaurants, do some souvenir shopping or take a train ride at the Stockyards Station, and then head over to the Cowtown Coliseum for an indoor Texas rodeo. If you enjoy the live music scene, be sure to check out the local restaurants and bars to see who is playing during your visit.
Day 4: Austin, Texas
Driving Time: 3 Hours 15 min (190 miles) (About the same time / distance from Fort Worth or Dallas)
On the morning of Day 4, it’s time to check out of your hotel and drive to Austin. On the way, make a quick stop in Waco–about halfway to Austin. Visit the Dr Pepper Museum where you can get an original Dr Pepper Float in a souvenir cup. Then head over to Magnolia Market & Shops where you can be inspired and do some shopping. Once you arrive in Austin, check into your hotel and then visit the Texas State Capitol. In the evening, experience Austin’s live music scene on 6th Street or take a stroll down South Congress Avenue for unique shops and live music.
Day 5: San Antonio, Texas
Driving Time: 1 Hour 30 Minutes (80 miles)
Day 5 starts with a short drive to San Antonio. When you arrive, get settled into your hotel and then go to explore the Alamo and learn more about its pivotal role in Texas history. After the Alamo, take a leisurely stroll along the San Antonio River Walk, followed by dinner at a riverside restaurant.
Day 6: San Antonio, Texas
Driving Time: 0 Hours – Explore San Antonio
On the second day of San Antonio — Day 6, visit the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. If there is still time, you can also explore the Pearl District, a vibrant area filled with shops, restaurants, and cultural spaces. End the day with a performance at the Majestic Theatre or enjoy a sunset river cruise.
Day 7: San Antonio, Texas
Driving Time: 0 Hours – Explore San Antonio
Spend the last day of your trip relaxing with a guided tour of Historic Market Square and do some last-minute shopping or sightseeing. Enjoy one last Tex-Mex meal at a local restaurant before heading home.
